Service Highlights 2007-2008
Peru Project
The Peru project was started a few years back by one of
our members who came back from a wilderness adventure.
Thru Dorothy’s efforts we are able to have a direct
effect on the continued education of a young teenage
girl living in the Amazon. Paying her tuition, uniforms,
books, and small living expense allows Narda an
opportunity to go to high school. Without outside
support Narda would not have that opportunity.
Women's Celebration
In March we held our 7th
Annual Women’s Celebration honoring women whose passions
and actions have a major impact on women and children in
Hampton Roads. This year one of the honorees, Betsy
Beamon extended her passions to Afghanistan. She left
her job, sold her house and car and moved to Kabul where
she started Women Of Hope Project.
Sponsor of Access AIDS Race
A local high school senior
organized and successfully put together the Access Race
for Aids as her senior high school project. The Zonta
Club of Hampton Roads was proud to be a major sponsor
and even more proud of the young organizer, our own
Ansley Fraser. Over $2000.00 was raised for the
organization.
Samaritan House Makeover
In May we once again donned our gloves,
grabbed our buckets and did a little magic turning a
shelter into a home for Samaritan House, a safe haven
for women needing refuse in our community. This is our
15th year of working directly with Samaritan
House.
